Competition holsters focus on performance. Kobura adds precision, premium materials, and customization. Built for 2011s and CZ Shadow 2s, these holsters combine modularity, craftsmanship, and competition ready performance.
Competition holsters are often treated as purely functional gear, but Kobura Holsters takes a different approach by combining precision manufacturing, customization, premium materials, and luxury design into one system.
In this Pewcentric Spotlight, Dave sits down with the founder of Kobura Holsters to explore how a passion project evolved into a premium holster business. Unlike traditional folded Kydex designs, Kobura uses a two piece construction method that increases precision, customization options, and interchangeable components.
The discussion covers leather wrapped holsters, CNC manufacturing, magnetic retention systems, customizable colors and textures, interchangeable front shells, and even unique materials like football and baseball leather.
For competition shooters, Kobura focuses primarily on CZ Shadow 2 and 2011 platforms, creating holsters designed to match the style, performance, and personality of highly customized firearms.
This spotlight shows how firearm accessories can go beyond function and become an extension of craftsmanship and personal identity.

(0:01) I expected to see another generic Kydex bucket like this.
(0:03) But I did not expect to see holsters like these.
(0:07) My reaction was that these would be perfect for the Pewcentric community with our focus on craftsmanship and customization.
(0:15) Let us get the story behind Kobura Holsters with our first in person Pewcentric Spotlight.
(0:26) Welcome to the studio.
(0:27) Hey Dave. Glad to be your first.
(0:34) What first got you interested in making holsters and how has it evolved over the last ten years.
(0:42) It actually started with this.
(0:46) I made it ten years ago for carry.
(0:51) It looks like leather but there is a Kydex shell inside.
(0:58) It served its purpose well.
(1:00) Why make this instead of buying one.
(1:03) I could not find something like it.
(1:05) I like premium leather and projects.
(1:14) I thought if I cannot find what I want, I might as well make it.
(1:20) Your breakthrough was moving from a one piece design to a two piece design.
(1:31) Yes. Mine uses two halves with four connection points.
(1:37) It allows greater manufacturing control and precision.
(1:46) Traditional folded Kydex limits adjustment.
(1:57) GX does two layers.
(2:03) I thought if two works, maybe three works.
(2:07) More layers create more customization opportunities.
(2:15) Shooters want colors and styles matching their belts, grips, and equipment.
(2:31) Competition shooters care deeply about appearance and personalization.
(2:38) Materials matter.
(2:46) Kydex offers durability, rigidity, retention, and longevity.
(3:06) Then came the idea.
(3:08) Why not wrap Kydex in leather.
(3:14) Good leather lasts a lifetime when maintained.
(3:28) Every draw feels premium.
(3:39) We discuss leather options and endless customization.
(4:06) Then something unexpected.
(4:08) Horween makes official leather used for professional sports balls.
(4:16) Including football leather and baseball leather.
(4:24) Literal football leather holsters.
(4:38) Fans can customize colors matching teams and personal preferences.
(5:12) Because of the two piece design, front shells are interchangeable.
(5:23) Customers often buy multiple shells for different appearances.
(5:36) Why stop at pistol grips matching your setup.
(5:46) Holsters can match too.
(6:00) Different textures and colors mimic popular grip designs.
(6:12) Matching grips and holsters creates a complete package.
(6:21) Then we discuss feel.
(6:24) Premium holsters have a distinctive sound and smooth draw.
(6:46) Drawing feels incredibly smooth.
(6:52) Precision manufacturing drives that experience.
(7:01) Tiny adjustments create major differences in retention.
(7:20) There is also a removable magnet system.
(7:33) It is not marketed as retention.
(7:37) It simply adds a unique finishing feel.
(7:45) Precision manufacturing.
(7:49) Premium materials.
(7:52) Infinite customization.
(8:01) What firearms are currently supported.
(8:25) Kobura initially focused on CZ Shadow 2 and 2011 platforms.
(8:42) Those firearms tend to attract highly customized setups.
(9:12) Customers investing heavily in firearm customization inspire matching holster designs.
